Move Rating System

I also developed the move rating system (MDRS) with the hope a similar system would be used in competitions since many sailors voiced their concern about the judging criteria used in competitions. This provides a quantitative perspective of windsurfing maneuvers but does not indicate the artist impression of a sailor, which is also very important.

The moves are rated by difficulty from 0 to 10 where 10 is the most difficult moves. Some moves are rated 11; which means the moves have yet to be performed. I consulted professional windsurfers to derive the move ratings.

A sailor can sum all their moves to obtain an overall index of their sailing level.
